Gold Coast, QLD
Find a trusted tradie on the Gold Coast
Beach units, canal homes and hinterland acreage all need looking after. We match you with one vetted Gold Coast tradie who knows the salt, the storms and the body corporate rules, not a list of five strangers to chase.
From Coomera to Coolangatta
The Gold Coast isn’t one kind of place to own a home. There are high-rise apartments and holiday units along the beachfront from Main Beach to Burleigh, canal homes in Broadbeach Waters, Sorrento and Hope Island, 1970s and 1980s brick houses through the middle suburbs, newer estates up around Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau, and acreage in the hinterland valleys. Each one brings its own jobs, and the right tradie knows the difference between them.
We match you with one vetted local who already works your end of the coast. There’s one person to deal with, and it costs you nothing.
What the coast does to a house
Living near the beach is great for you and hard on your house. Salt air corrodes steel fixings, hinges, air-con units and roof sheeting faster than it would inland. The subtropical sun fades paint and dries out timber, and the long, humid summers bring mould to eaves, bathrooms and air-con units. Then there’s storm season, roughly November to March, when heavy rain and wind test roofs, gutters and drainage. Termites are a fact of life in this part of Queensland too, so any timber near the ground deserves a regular look.
That shapes the work we get asked about most:
- Plumbers for hot water, blocked drains and leaks that travel between apartments
- Electricians for smoke alarm upgrades, ceiling fans and switchboards
- Air-con installers for split systems, ducted air and salt-damaged outdoor units
- Painters for sun-faded render and mould-prone eaves
- Roofers for storm damage, leaks and tired gutters
- Pest control for termite inspections and treatments
- Carpenters and builders for decks, renovations and extensions
- Tilers for bathrooms, pool surrounds and balconies
- Handymen for rental repairs and the odd-jobs list
Units, body corporates and holiday lets
Apartments, townhouses and short-stay units are everywhere on the coast, and they change how a job gets done. In a body corporate, anything that touches common property, such as balconies, external walls, shared pipes or where an outdoor air-con unit sits, usually needs approval before work starts. Lifts, loading bays and visitor parking have to be booked with building management, which takes time and can show up in the quote.
If you own a rental, Queensland’s minimum housing standards apply to every tenancy, covering things like weatherproofing, working locks and fixtures in good repair. Short-stay owners usually need repairs squeezed in between guests. Tell us about access and timing up front and we’ll take it into account when we match you.
Licences in Queensland
In Queensland, a licence kicks in early. Most building and trade work worth more than $3,300, counting labour and materials, needs a QBCC licence, and plumbing and drainage need one whatever the job is worth. Electrical work is licensed separately by the Electrical Safety Office, gas fitting needs its own gas work licence, and air-con installers also need an ARCtick refrigerant licence. For bigger home building jobs, Queensland adds written contracts, capped deposits and home warranty cover.
Whoever we match you with has already been checked for licence, insurance, ABN and reviews. To check someone yourself, our Queensland licence checks page lists each register and what to look for.
Across the border and up in the hills
Coolangatta sits right on the New South Wales border, with Tweed Heads on the other side. Licences are issued state by state, so a job in Tweed Heads falls under NSW rules even if the tradie lives in Queensland. In summer the two sides also run on different clocks, because NSW has daylight saving and Queensland doesn’t, so double-check the time of any appointment that crosses the border.
Hinterland properties around Tallebudgera Valley, Currumbin Valley and Springbrook bring longer travel, steep driveways and, on some acreage, rainwater tanks and on-site sewage systems instead of town connections. Mention the access when you book so the tradie turns up with the right gear.
