Check the City’s options first

Before you pay anyone, look at what the City of Gold Coast already offers. Its FLEXiSKiP service, run by a contractor, delivers a 3 m³ skip that holds up to a tonne to eligible houses and townhouses once each financial year, for a $50 fee. You fill it, and they collect it. Unit complexes with more than 10 units, high-rises with bulk bins, the Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove resort complexes, island communities and some rural properties aren’t eligible, so check before you plan around it.

The City’s waste and recycling centres also take recycling and green organics free of charge, and since 1 July 2026 they’ve charged a $5 gate fee for general waste going to landfill. If you have a trailer and a free Saturday, that’s the cheapest route. A rubbish removalist earns their fee when there’s more than one skip’s worth, nobody to do the lifting, no vehicle, or a deadline like a lease handover.

Storms, towers and loads a removalist can’t take

After a summer storm, green waste is the big job: snapped branches, palm fronds and hedges that have grown too fast in the wet. It’s bulky rather than heavy, so it’s priced by how much truck space it fills. Mixed loads that include soil, turf or broken concrete are a different story, because heavy waste costs more to tip.

Apartment clean-outs bring their own logistics. Many high-rise buildings want the goods lift booked and padded through the building manager, and the truck may have to use a loading dock with time limits. Long carries from the lift to the kerb add labour, so mention them when you ask for a price.

Paint, chemicals, gas bottles, batteries and tyres are usually refused or charged extra. Old fibro sheeting may contain asbestos, and a general removalist won’t take it, so get a licensed asbestos removalist to look at it first.

No licence, so here’s what to check

Queensland doesn’t license household rubbish removal, which leaves three things worth checking: the ABN on ABN Lookup, proof of public liability cover, and reviews from real customers. Ask where the load is headed and get the tip docket or a similar record, because under Queensland law, dumping a load of 200 litres or more is an illegal dumping offence. For trades that do need a Queensland licence, see our Queensland licence checks.

Rubbish removal prices on the Gold Coast

Prices here run close to Brisbane’s. Expect around $80 to $180 to have one bulky item collected, and $500 to $900 when the junk fills a whole truck. A 4 m³ skip bin usually runs $250 to $450, and a house or garage clean-out with sorting $800 to $3,000, following the volume. Our rubbish removal price guide has every range; it’s indicative, so send photos for a firm price.

Rubbish removal in Gold Coast: common questions

Is there a free rubbish removal service on the Gold Coast?
Not completely free. The City of Gold Coast's FLEXiSKiP service drops a 3 m³ skip at eligible houses once a financial year for a $50 fee, which suits a one-off clear-out. Recycling and green organics can go to the City's waste and recycling centres free, while landfill waste has carried a $5 gate fee since 1 July 2026. Check the City's website for current rules.
How much does rubbish removal cost on the Gold Coast?
Gold Coast removalists mostly price on volume. As a rough guide, one bulky item costs $80 to $180, about a quarter-load $180 to $350, a half load $300 to $550, and a completely full truck $500 to $900. Skip bins run about $150 to $300 for 2 m³ and $350 to $600 for 6 m³. Soil, rubble and bricks are quoted separately.
What's the cheapest way to clear junk on the Gold Coast?
If you have a ute or trailer, drop recycling, scrap metal and green waste at a City waste and recycling centre, where they're free, and only pay the gate fee for what has to go to landfill. Sell or give away anything usable. If you don't have a vehicle, a $50 FLEXiSKiP booking is hard to beat for one big clear-out a year.
Can I put a mattress in the FLEXiSKiP?
The City's service provider lists single mattresses among the items FLEXiSKiP accepts, along with furniture, whitegoods and garden organics. Building waste, asbestos, chemicals, batteries, tyres, glass and mirrors aren't accepted. For a larger mattress or anything on the excluded list, a removalist or a trip to a waste and recycling centre is the way to go.
How can I tell my rubbish will go to a proper tip?
Queensland treats dumping 200 litres or more of rubbish as illegal dumping, so pick a removalist who can show where loads go. Hire a business with an ABN and a street address, get an itemised invoice, and ask which tip or transfer station will take the load. Be suspicious of a price so low it wouldn't pay the tip fees, however tempting it looks.
